Getting Organized With Kate and Laurel

As I've spoken about on the blog before a major theme that I'm trying to embrace in my life this year is balance.  With that has already come a lot of shifting around and a lot of change in the way that I do things.  I've been putting a huge focus on setting boundaries, having scheduled time for work and for play, and one thing that I wasn't so much anticipating was the very real need to get organized.  I'm sure by this point almost all of us have watched Marie Kondo's Netflix special and felt this incredible urge to purge your house of clutter, get rid of everything that isn't sparking joy and start all over again.  I like to think that our home functions well and for the most part it does... until it doesn't.  We have this awful habit, especially when it comes to documents (i.e.: mail, bills, homework, permission slips, the piece of paper my son barely scribbled on that the teacher deemed important enough to send home…) to just let them pile up and seemingly forget about them until it's Thursday and the permission slip is due and holy heck where did that tiny green piece of paper go?!  That paired with the ever-changing schedule of my husband and his travel dates that I seem to constantly be forgetting until he's kissing me goodbye to go out of town really made me face our organizational shortcomings once and for all.  I'm busy, my husband is busy, our son's school and extracurricular activity schedule is busy… and I just needed a place to make sense of it all.  So when Kate and Laurel reached out to me about working together, I honestly could have cried happy tears for the opportunity to partner with them to create the most organized, functional, and beautiful home command center that I possibly could to combat some of those organizational woes.

I truly love Kate and Laurel's line of home decor and organizational products - they have really thought of everything when it comes to creating a home that is both beautiful, and incredibly functional without completely breaking the bank to do so.  (Stick around to the end of this post for an awesome giveaway and a special surprise!) Kate and Laurel also does an amazing job of catering to so many different decor preferences so it's so easy when looking through their website to find pieces that compliment your own personal style and fit into your home beautifully.  But maybe the best part of all is their mission to give back by donating a portion of all of their sales to Gilda's Club to help those whom have been impacted by cancer.  I was so excited to get the opportunity to partner with a brand that is doing so much in the way of making other people's lives a little bit lighter.

Before now, we never had a dedicated place to sit down and handle our responsibilities.  I'd grab everything I needed to meal prep for the week from the kitchen, bring it into the living room, and sit down on the couch to make a plan … only to have to lug everything back into the kitchen (which let's face it… more often than not there would be cookbooks left in the living room until I got around to putting things away later that night and it was just overwhelming.)  I wanted to build a space within our home that tackled the organizational problem, gave all the scattered things a home, and gave me a place to actually sit down and address the things that needed to be taken care of.   When I saw the Kaya Pub Table and Welborn Bar Stools (for reference I went with the 26in size) I knew that these would be the perfect pieces to build our command center around.  I truly love this table, it's the perfect size and the simplistic design really makes me happy.  We also chose the Francesca Organizer which is a great catch all for pens, notebooks, stationery items, stamps etc.  It's given all of those little things a nice, organized home.

This entire space is centered around the one thing that we realized we needed the most - a family calendar.  I really liked the Wallcott Calendar, it's cute, it's simple, it's dry erase so it can be used year after year, and it's magnetic - so any super important invitations, permission slips, etc can be hung up so that they're front of mind.  Being able to see the entire family's schedule for the month at a glance has been such a simple step in reducing stress and last minute surprises.  We also knew we needed a place to finally be able to make sense of all the documents that are floating around.  I loved the Wallcott Wall Organizers.  They're perfect for giving everything that we previously would just stack up a home and allow me to handle each category when I have the time in a way that isn't overwhelming.  Bills go in one slot, mail and other letters that need responding to in another, there's even a spot for homework.  It's such a relief to truly have everything in it's place and not be searching through a stack of papers when I need to take care of something.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who feels some level of stress when it comes to taking care of the things that make a home and family function, so on top of having this space be highly organized and very functional in that sense, I also wanted it to be beautiful and a calm place to sit down and take care of business.  I chose the Bosc Chalkboard to put on the main wall above the table to incorporate a little something pretty.  Getting to change out the design on the chalkboard to fit the season and the mood is a really fun way for me to flex my creative muscles and it is one of the little touches that makes me smile when I see the space.  We also really loved these shelves - they're super cute and simple and adding some of our favorite things like books, plants, and art into this space gives it so much more personality and warmth.  Another piece I loved were these candle holders.  They match the shelves so well and I love the design, plus there's nothing like the warm glow of a candle to calm you and get you in a good mood!  Kate and Laurel is also kind of known for their adorable trays - I loved the pattern and texture of the Marmora Wood Tray and feel like it's the perfect touch in this space!  Throwing in some pretty florals totally gets me in a good mood and I feel like I can handle all of the things sitting here now!

I truly couldn't be happier with how this space came together, it serves so much purpose in our home and now sorting through the mail, meal planning, and handling all of the responsibilities of our family is actually something that I enjoy and find peace in.

  7. IG handle is emkra_ I live in a teeny tiny studio apartment with my boyfriend, so it’s hard to keep our space neat and organized (how we like it ) with such minimal options for shelving, storage, etc. I’m also an artist, so I have all of my supplies scattered throughout the space, as well as our own personal belongings. I’d love to have better options for organization and of course some beautiful honey and the hive prints to display ♥️
